I live in Danville, IL with my three huge fluffy Newfoundland Dogs (400lb’s worth woofta!)
Self- taught, my love for baking started when I was in middle school when I found a recipe for a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cheesecake. I didn’t let it chill long enough, decorated it, and still ate it! It was delicious!!!
Background
Surprisingly, I went to school for musical theatre! I lived in New York City and Los Angeles collectively for five years. While I was auditioning and in between shows I became a personal trainer to pay the bills! As life would have it, I moved home to Illinois. I train at a local gym and still do community theatre to this day!
Wait a personal trainer and a baker?! That’s right! In the midst of all that life, I was always baking but I wasn’t serious about it until I moved back home. In 2017 I really started my love for cake making and decorating. I started posting on social media and one day decided “hey wouldn’t it be fun to do a giveaway of my cakes as I practice?” A giveaway that I started on a whim blew up into a huge success and gave me the courage to start my own cake business!
Dream it
The dream of being able to sell my cakes quickly pushed me to start looking for a building to rent. But in the back of my mind, I always wanted to do it from home. As luck would have it my backyard was a perfect spot to build my own little cake haven!
The name actually comes from my first personal trainer. I used to bring treats and desserts for him and the other trainers (weird right?). He jokingly said, “your business could be Kayla’s Chic Treats!” I loved it and have stuck with it ever since! Thanks, Nick, I owe you!!
The goal
My goal is to help you create your very own unique cake, cheesecake, cupcake, or trifle! Why custom? I think of trail mix. There’s always one ingredient you don’t like and have to pick out! I feel when a menu is limited to pre-decided cakes there is always something you wish you could add or take out! I love being able to give the power to my customers as they create their dream cake, from the cake flavor to the filling to the decorations! I am thankful they trust me to bring it to life!
